What will you study?

The emphasis of this course is learning by doing. In the first year, you will produce a portfolio of coursework. For the externally set assignment you will create ideas in response to one of the five exciting starting points provided. During the course you will learn about and explore different approaches to textiles subject matter, media, techniques and processes, discovering where your interests and passion lie.

Textiles offers the opportunity to develop skills over a broad range of textile and fashion techniques and applications such as printing, dyeing, surface design, embroidery and weaving. Practical work is produced by researching and developing ideas using drawing, digital exploration and sketchbooks supported by critical evaluation and an awareness of contemporary and historical influences.

Future Pathways

Textiles students have a wide choice of career pathways including fashion accessories designer, bespoke tailoring, theatre costume designer, pattern cutter, fabric technologist, fashion editor, stylist, visual merchandiser and forecasting agent. You will develop your creative flair and ability to generate ideas and concepts that will prepare you well for any arts degree or apprenticeship.
