What will you study?

The course will allow you to develop your fluency in French through the study of very engaging topics that will cover technological and social change in the French society, looking at diversity and the benefits it brings. You will also study highlights of French-speaking artistic culture,including francophone music and cinema, and will learn about political engagement and who wields political power in the French-speaking world.

Throughout your studies,you will learn the language in the context of French-speaking countries and the issues and influences which have shaped them. You will study The Outsider by Albert Camus and La Haine by Matthieu Kassovitz.

Studying French will provide you with the pleasure of learning a beautiful, rich, melodious language which is also analytical; French allows you to structure thought and develop critical thinking. Additionally, French is both a working language and an official language of the United Nations, the European Union, UNESCO, NATO, the International Olympic Committee, the International Red Cross and international courts.

Future Pathways

Studying French will be useful for the following careers: finance, law, diplomatic service, working for international organisations (including in the health sector), engineering, teaching, translating, interpreting, journalism, politics and business.
