What will you study?

This course is very practical. You will study repertoire, theatre performance and be examined on your knowledge of practitioners. You will prepare for this through written and practical exploration. In Year 2 you will work on a devised assessment performance, whilst also being able to specialise in your chosen discipline of dance, drama or singing. In addition, you will take a written exam, writing from the viewpoint of both an actor and a director. We will see live theatre which you will need to write about this in your exam. This course is open to both Drama GCSE and BTEC Performing Arts Level 2 students as we offer both pathways in the same course. Drama students will not be expected to sing and dance unless they choose to. We are also open to students who have an interest in the subject, or perform outside of school.

Performing Arts is a course that is recognised by universities and employers as something that shows you are a great communicator and have developed a number of skills. Many professionals regard Performance based courses as a supporting course for careers such as law and journalism.

Future Pathways

BTEC Level 3 is an entry qualification for higher education courses in Drama and Performing Arts as well as an exciting range of Media. You will be well prepared for a job in the theatre industry with an excellent understanding of theatre processes and production.
