Ilhan Represents V6 Sixth Form at Bristol Gabblers Competition

Bristol Gabblers is a unique and long-standing tradition among Bristol schools, where Sixth Form students gather to practice the art of after-dinner speaking.

Each year there are a number of competitors representing both state and independent schools, with around twenty participants taking part. Sixth Formers from across the city had the chance to refine their oratorial skills through a series of speaking engagements, receiving valuable expert feedback along the way.

Our participant at last weeks latest round, Ilhan Oljoog, captivated the audience with her insightful and thought-provoking speech on the subject of 'Food for thought'. Ilhan spoke with gusto on the subject of food in Yemeni and Somali culture, as well as the importance of Ramadan; and food for thought being thought- not food!

Ilhan's presentation was rich with wit, insight, and vivid imagery. Her impeccable timing allowed her to blend poignancy with humour, creating engaging twists and turns throughout her delivery.

Mrs Morgan-Jones, Teacher of English Literature said “I could not be more proud of Ilhan and to see how she has grown over the course of her speeches. She displayed huge confidence- she really is a natural orator!"

Ilhan stands out as a remarkable example of a student who has fully embraced the opportunities available to her, thriving in the process. It is inspiring to see students like her confidently express themselves, embodying our core values of Working Hard and Having Courage.
